This photo was taken right in my living room at home!Time
I believe this was around the evening although it was taken inside so this didn’t matter too much!Lighting
As it was taken inside I was limited with what I could do lighting-wise. I usually like to shoot without flash indoors as it creates beautiful warm shades whilst still keeping that nice white tone. When I need some more light, I shoot with a speedlight!Equipment
I shot the photo on a nikon D300s with a nikkor 18-200mm f4.5-5.6 lens. No tripod as I prefer to have the control I want with angles etc.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the mischief and personality of my dog, Daisy. I think the shot really portrays a sort of innocence, and it’s super cute! Who could say not to that face?Editing
There was some slight adjustments in the highlights and shadows but nothing major. I like my photos to look fairly natural and I think I achieved that here.In my camera bag
I like to pack light, so typically, I’ll take either my Nikon D300s with nikkor 18/200mm f/4.5-5.6, or my Nikon D750 with a nikkor 24-120mm f/4. The sensor on the D750 is newer with more MP so I can get sharper images, but the crop sensor on the D300s with that lens gives me so much zoom! I’m currently saving up for a 70-200mm f/2.8 to replace the 24-120mm, and I’d love to buy one of the Sigma art lenses for portraits as they produce stunning and sharp images!Feedback
Keep experimenting and trying new things. What works for one photographer may be different to another. When shoot wildlife, speed is important. Find a shutter speed that can freeze the action and that won’t give you extreme grain. It’s all about balance when it comes to speed. Opening your aperture to f/2.8 or f/4 will allow you more leeway on shutter speed. Investing in a good lens is essential. A lens with max aperture of 2.8 will give you creamy bokeh for portraits, speed for wildlife and sport, and brightness for landscapes and astro photography.
