This was taken on my iPhone just before London was locked down due to Covid-19. It depicts Regents Street at night!Time
It was taken at around 10PM, on my commute home from University!Lighting
Obviously this is completely naturally lit, with just the light coming from buildings and streetlights. I love the glow of the lamp in the middle! My favourite thing about it has to be the reflections along the floor thanks to the rain which is common in London!Equipment
This was shot on an iPhone XS. No fancy lenses or flash! I reduced brightness on the Apple camera app to ensure the dramatic look.Inspiration
It was my last time in London for possibly a long time, so I wanted to capture it in the quietly busy nature that I’d experienced it due to the fear of Covid. It was like my goodbye to my favourite city.Editing
Nothing extreme; some grain and slight changes to the highlights and shadows just to emphasise the dramatic lighting. In my camera bag
Typically, I try to carry my Nikon D300S with an 80-200mm lens. I have an attachable flash for situations that require significant light. More recently, I’ve been working with a Nikon D750 too. Another thing I love to carry with me is a disposable camera! Usually, I use a fujifilm quicksnap for this, but I’d love to buy a 35mm FSLR camera eventually for that cool, dated vibe.Feedback
London is constantly alive. Experiment with different time of day and different areas. Walking along the Thames is a great place for photo opportunities, as is Camden Town. And the tube stations too! Try and capture a story within your work, as there are so many stories to be told in London. Everyone is going somewhere! For slightly quieter areas, venture further out, to places like Wembley Park or Richmond.
