Taken in Kyoto. Had to wait for a while to find a moment where no one is passing as this place can get very crowded.

What an amazing shot, I hope you don't laugh but this reminds me of pencils of all things! You know, rows and rows of orange pencils. An orange corridor receding into the distance..

What a wonderful juxtaposition of shapes with the vertical pillars and the curving pathway. Very interesting.

Behind The Lens

Location

I am a photographer from the Philippines. I like taking photos during my travels. I took this photo in Kyoto, Japan. This is one of the famous attractions there.

Time

This photo was taken around noon so there were a lot of people in the area.

Lighting

There are thousands of vermilion torii gates which look like they are attached to each other but they are not. So a good amount of light pass through those spaces making it well lit during the day.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D750 with Nikon 16-35mm F/4. No other equipments were involved. As much as I would love to use a tripod to have the ISO at the lowest number, it was impossible due to the crowd and I’ll be obstructing the way.

Inspiration

I really love the lines in this photo, and having that one latern to have something different among the lines was pretty good. It looks like a box tunnel.

Editing

I took this photo in RAW format so I used Lightroom for post-processing. I just adjusted the highlights, shadows, contrast and a bit of vibrance.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D750, Nikon 16-35mm F/4 which I mostly use, Nikon 50mm F/1.4, and Tamron 90mm F/2.8. I love taking long exposures so I always have my filters with me, ND400 and ND1000. I also have the star filter which I use for cityscape at night, to make stars from light sources. And of course the tripod.

Feedback

Be patient and creative. It’s not always that things will go the way you expect them. Just the light conditions can vary easily, surroundings as well that you have no control of like a crowd of people which can make taking a clean shot challenging, I suggest going the earliest time possible for a lesser crowd. If possible, go to the photo spot a few hours early or a day before to survey the area and prepare ahead.
