Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken at a little cafe in the hills of Melbourne near Belgrave - The Fat Goat in Upwey. Tim was performing as Wolf And Willow (his band at the time), in a solo acoustic show.Time
This was taken roughly around mid/late afternoon, around 3/4 pm.Lighting
I shot this with the flash turned off...and wanted to use natural lighting.Equipment
I use a Nikon 5500, with the standard lens attached. I didn't need the zoom lens as I was seated a few feet away from Tim.Inspiration
Anytime I go out, the camera always comes with me, especially when I am going to any live performances like this one. As mentioned before I was seated just a few feet away from the subject, so I had perfect opportunity to get some decent shots. I ended up with a good 10/15 photos from the afternoon.Editing
When processing my shots, I normally like to make sure the photo looks good, so generally I clean up the sharpness, and adjust contrast and colours/brightness etc until I am satisfied with the outcome. In my camera bag
I simply have my Nikon 5500, with the standard lens , and the zoom 55 - 200 lens. I change the lenses according to my choice of wanting more detail or not.Feedback
Photographing live performance, to me, is more a case of capturing moments in time. I can take up to well over 100 shots at each performance, however, at least a quarter of these will be in the final collection. I do try and get shots from a few different angles/perspectives, and will swap to the zoom lens for close up detail, and the standard lens for more all encompassing style shots.
