Location
The local botanical gardens. One of their trails goes through this grove of trees and both sides of the trail are covered in bluebells… hundreds of them. I sat down, crawled around and shot bluebells for the better part of half an hour.Time
Early afternoon, but the shady grove kept direct sunlight from penetrating.Lighting
Since it was shady, I was unable to keep the ISO as low as I wanted. I didn't want to go wide open to preserve some depth.Equipment
Canon Rebel SL1, the telephoto lens that came with the kit 70-250mm. Handheld, no filters.Inspiration
Love of the flowers. I just sat with them and tried to capture all the different ways that they were beautiful and all the ways they made me feel. I tried to find the most beautiful blooms and the best way to frame them. I liked this one best out of the 50 or so shots that I took in that shady grove.Editing
Very little. Bump the brilliance a bit, tone down the greens because my camera over does them just a touch, and that also brings out the blues. Cropped a bit tighter… always try for a very light hand in post processing. In my camera bag
Camera, short tripod, 40mm pancake lens, 15-55mm kit lens, 70-250mm zoom lens, and 100mm macro, extra batteries, UV filters/ND filter for each lens.Feedback
Don't hike. Explore. Get to know your subjects before shooting them… I watch other photographers at the garden, and they only stop for a second or two for a shot… no time to find the shot hiding in the brush. Patience is the key.
