Thanks. There are couple of such trees. They grow on the hill made of stones from the ruins of medieval castle called Vysokiy Zamok (High Castle) in Lviv. Loved to have a walk there and sit near them. And always wondered about power of nature. Mostly people don't give atention to them.

Behind The Lens

Location

There are couple of such trees. They grow on the hill made of stones from the ruins of medieval castle called Vysokiy Zamok (High Castle). Vysokiy Zamok located on the top of the Castle Hill of the city of Lviv. From that hill opens beautiful view all over the city.

Time

Castle Hill is a pretty tall mountain in the center of big city. And all the hill is covered with small curvy and very beautiful streets, with charming old houses. So, if you're photographer - climbing to the top can take from a hour to a week. That day my way up taken me a half of the day, so that picture was made in the middle of the day.

Lighting

Old BlackBerry Storm cellphone camera is pretty weak instrument, so i decided to make photos at bright sunny day.

Equipment

I used what i had by my hand - BlackBerry Storm cellphone.

Inspiration

I was inviting one friend from Romania to visit me. She was asking is Lviv beautiful city, and if there is something interesting to see. So that day i decided to have a walk thru the old part of city and to make some photos to show her beauty of my city. I understood that one day is not enough to picture everything interesting, and decided to capture most wonderful locations. And High Castle Hill was one of them. I wanted to take panorama shots from its top. And on my way up i stopped to have a rest right near that tree. I loved that place much, always stopped there for a minute just to have a look on that miracle of life. Wondering how it could grown on that bricks, how it wanted to live, how magical and strong nature is. And decided to share this magic with her and all other people.

Editing

Even with good lights my cellphone camera couldn't take good quality picture, so i made some basic corrections. Changed white balance a little bit, made tone and contrast corrections, and colors didn't touched - them left original.

In my camera bag

Usually my bulletproof Canon 20D is always with me everywhere. His companions are Sigma UC Zoom 70-210mm f4-5,6, which gives pretty good picture and have same size as 18-55mm kit lens, and Canon 50mm f1,8 i'm using mostly in manual mode because it's autofocus isn't correct in low lights.

Feedback

Those trees grows almost on the top of hill, so it's pretty windy up there and trying to capture them in cold or stormy weather - is bad idea. There's not much place there, and lots of people walking up and down, so to use tripod there would be hard. And best to use wide angle lens, because of low distance to the object.
