Location
The photo was captured during a live bird show at Currumbin Wild Life Sanctuary on the Gold Coast, Australia. It is very popular with the locals and shows an abundance of wild life. The bird show features this lovable owl, wedge tailed eagles, magpies, parrots, some exotic birds and even a comedy act from a pelican.Time
The show was scheduled for 2pm and there was very little cloud cover. The sun was very bright which meant I had to watch my exposure.Lighting
We were sitting under shade cloth which provided a little bit of shadow, but as the birds were flying in and out into the bright sunshine, I tried to capture a shot at just the right time.Equipment
I used a Canon 6D and a 70-200mm F2.8 IS IIInspiration
I have seen so many different owl photos, particularly on Viewbug and I really wanted my own picture. I know a lot of the owl photos can look quite stunning but some can also look duplicated. I wanted something that was completely different, and decided to try for one where the owl's big eyes would be a highlight, and when I saw the owl looking up, I knew I had my shot.Editing
I used Lightroom and adjusted the color to be a little more striking and vivid. In my camera bag
I always carry a Canon 6D and a 70-200mm F2.8 IS II as they go really well together and the lens is such an amazing all rounder. I also carry a 50mm F1.8 and a 100mm F2.8 Macro for any close up shots.Feedback
For me, Owls are such a beautiful bird. I don't have many where I live, so given the opportunity to capture one was really exciting. My suggestion is to know what type of shot you are looking for before you start. Whether it's to capture the owl in motion, or sitting, know which position to be in for when the moment happens. If you are walking through the wild and searching for one, then I would really love some advice because I have no experience in that. Thank you for reading my story.
