Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a private lake in British Colombia, Canada.

Time

It was taken shortly after sunrise while the lake was quite still. My friends went out for a paddle (more of a float) after breakfast and I pictured the photo in my mind from the shore before putting up the drone to capture it.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect. Being shortly after sunrise, the light was quite even across the lake which is very important in not seeing harsh flares and getting the colour perfect.

Equipment

This photo was taken with a DJI Phantom 4.

Inspiration

I'd seen inspiration photos online, similar photos through instagram of boats, canoes and kayaks, but never with a colour like this. We are lucky in Western Canada to have amazing teal colours in our lakes. The shot wasn't planned beforehand, I was simply inspired by my friends taking the canoe out at that time.

Editing

I actually did no processing whatsoever except a simple crop to perfectly centre the canoe, and remove CA. All colour is completely natural out of camera.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Canon 1Dx2 with a sigma art 24-35 and 85. A tripod of course, occasionally my drone if I foresee using it.
