Location
Pitcher Pond, Maine, about 10 miles west of Belfast.Time
It was early in the morning, fog blanketed the lake but some places were less opaque than others and that's when I took this shot. Half a minute later, the kayak was lost in the fog. I wanted to take the shot with the kayak closer to the shore's point but it was not to be.Lighting
I like to use natural light.Equipment
Well, it was September, 2008 so it must have been a Canon PowerShot A630. I kept my more expensive camera on shore and took my wife's camera kayaking, in case of a water/camera accident. I've had several cameras since then. No other equipment. I was in a kayak, trailing the kayak in the photo. I stopped rowing, waited for my kayak to settle down, placed the camera on my knee to avoid blurring and shot two or three captures.Inspiration
I liked the lines from shore that seemed to point to the kayak and its occupant. Everything was so quiet except for splash sound from the oars and an occasional loon's cries. The fog created a sense of isolation and calm.Editing
Not much. I may have cropped some from the right side of the shoreline. In my camera bag
Today, I have a Nikon Z7 with an 18-70 mm lens kit. I carry a digital light source if it's going to get dark during the shoot but I seldom use it. Sometimes I bring along my Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 lens. It allows me to take more shots in low light situations.Feedback
If in a kayak, keep the camera in a water tight bag. Stop the kayak, let it settle down before taking the camera out. Blurring is common because of boat movement so take several shots and hope the target hasn't moved out of view. As many photographers know, early morning and early sundown are optimum times to go photo hunting. Maine is a great place to bring a camera, any camera, any time of year.
