Behind The Lens

Location

At a bird sanctuary in Florida.

Time

late afternoon/early evening

Lighting

very low winds and waves along with a lowering sun created optimum light conditions.

Equipment

FZ100 Lumix camera, zoom lens

Inspiration

liked the relatively calm birds and their reflections off the smooth water of the bay.

Editing

no

In my camera bag

camera, flash attachment, a couple extra power packs, a couple xtra SD memory cards, lens cleaner.

Feedback

When I get to a location, I walk around a lot, looking for the best places to shoot from, paying particular attention to sun location, the background, and context. I ask myself if it's better to shoot from a low point or high point, with a short or long lens, close to the target or further away. I try to take more than one shot. I brace the camera against trees, posts, rocks, whatever helps me keep the camera still (I like to travel light, without being encumbered by a tripod.)
