Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a smaller city in Denmark. This was my first go at taking self portraits. I find it super important to always find new challenges and new tasks - and always try to think out the box. I'm still quite new to photography, and I love that there is always endless possibilities to what you can create.

Time

The photo was taken at about 1PM.

Lighting

I always find lighting to be one of the most, if not THE most important thing in photography.

Equipment

I used the Canon 700D and the 50mm f/1.4. I also used a tripod, shutter remote and artificial lighting.

Inspiration

I have always been a sucker for beautiful patterns and the way shadows can help create a statement. I had a old skirt laying around that I never used, but I also couldn't bare to throw it out because I loved the pattern so much. Then I realized that I could still use the skirt, but in the art of photography instead of actually wearing it. I sadly don't have the skirt anymore, but I think it has served it's purpose haha.

Editing

I feel like selective color in Photoshop will forever be my go-to. I think it helps create the mood and the spirit of every picture immensely.

In my camera bag

As I'm still quite new to photography I don't have a load of stuff. That being said, I really think that you can create amazing pictures with minimal tools. I find photography to be more about your eye than your tools (but I obviously wouldn't complain if someone handed me a Canon 5D mark IV, haha). I usually have my Canon 700D and my 50mm f/1.8. If I go out knowing that I will be photographing landscapes I also pack my 10-18mm lens. I also try to have my prism with me at all times.

Feedback

Find something with patterns - clothing, a curtain, paper with a decorative design. You choose the limits! Then play around with lighting - you can use daylight just as well as artificial lighting. I would recommend getting as close to the subject as possible.
