Location
This photo was taken in Gunnison, Colorado along the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.Time
We had gotten to Black Canyon around sunset, took a few photos at sunset. We'd packed some hot chocolate, head lamps, and of course, cameras and tripods. It was pitch black in the park after dark. We sat up along a roadside pull off in the park and proceeded to shoot exposures ranging from 15 seconds to 3 minutes.Lighting
Long exposures are a lot of fun and that was what we set out to do at Black Canyon. Needless to say, standing out in the 30 degree temperature paid off for some phenomenal long exposure stuff ranging from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.Equipment
This was shot with a Pentax K-3 on a tripod with a trigger shot in Bulb mode.Inspiration
I've always wanted to try long exposure and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison gave a great setting to do such. Capturing the Milky Way was one of the coolest photo experiences I've had.Editing
I didn't do a lot of processing to this, just added some contrast. In my camera bag
First things, first, Pentax K-1 Mark II is in the bag with Pentax K-3 as a backup. Also in the bag is a Pentax flash, Pentax 70-200mm 2.8 and 24-70mm, along with a 50mm & 100mm macro.Feedback
Be patient. Play with exposure times and until you find what your looking for. Like most things, practice makes perfect!
