I found a nest of eggs and managed to snap a picture before the mom chased me away. Just two weeks later I saw three heads popping up from above the nest! It was so sweet to watch as one of the chicks tried to hop out of the nest to follow their mom!Time
It was late afternoon and the sun was finally peeking out from behind some clouds.Lighting
I did my best to tilt the camera some so I could get some light in the picture, but it was hard because the post that the nest rested on was very close to the deck.Equipment
I actually just used my I-phone to take the photo because I couldn't fit my Canon camera in between the post and the deck.Inspiration
My cats ended up killing a blue Jay, and we later found their nest and took care of the chicks for the mom. When we let them go three months later, they stuck around for awhile. I saw the robins nest and decided that I had to get a picture before they all grew up!Editing
I didn't think Photoshop or changes were needed to make this picture beautiful. I liked the angle and decided to keep it just how it was.In my camera bag
I carry my lenses and Canon camera with me at almost all times. I also carry a small disposable in my purse.Feedback
Bird nests aren't always hidden. Watch them around your house, and around the bird feeders. They might build they're nest in a small maple tree or under a deck, like the robin nest I captured. Sometimes they decide on the most absurd paces: They once tried to build one on my porch, and another time flew in my garage and made it in there. If you just sit quietly in your yard, your sure to find at least one!
