The photo was taken on top of the highest Mountain (called "Großer Arber") in the Bavarian Forrest in southern Germany right next to the Czech border.
It was mid October 2014 when i called my model Friederike on a Friday to ask her if she would have time to do a shooting on the mountain as i knew the wether would be perfect for the weekend. She said yes and we hiked to the top, did the shooting in 4°C and tried to sleep in sleeping bags under the stars on the peak to get some additional shots at sunrise the next morning.
Just for this shooting i borrowed the beautiful white glittering dress from a friend which is one of her stage dresses (she is the singer of the pagan folk band called "Faun"). I wanted to show also the backside of Friederike while she was facing the setting sun so i used a remote controlled strobe to illuminate the dress just a little. I told her to bring along a WHITE slip for the shooting and it turned out she brought a black one. But to do if you are on top on the mountain with a shivering model … so we did the shooting anyway. I do love the red circular lens flare which only happens if you point your lens exactly to the center of the sun.
This shot was taken by hand on a Pentax K-3 with a 10-17mm Sigma HSM 3.5 lens together with a remote controlled strobe flash.
I do hike in the mountains a lot and wanted to work out some ideas i had to express my feelings each time i saw a sunset on top of mountains, which is quite often as i do sleep on those peaks to also enjoy the stars and the sunrise. I met my model just a few month before and was inspired by her beauty and i asked her if she would do with me a very special shooting not knowing yet, that it would be on the top of a mountain.
Be prepared to check the weather and your outdoor equipment. Ours was not sufficient for 4°C during the night and i also would loved to have some gloves with me. Plan your framing and posing in advance as you only have about 20 minutes to shoot while the sun is setting. Be there at least 1 hour before to do the preparations for your camera and the model. Do not forget to bring along delicious food the enjoy after your work is done. Do use PhotoPills or http:--app.photoephemeris.com to do the calculations for your sunset angles on your shooting date.

I shot in raw and did some basic post-processing. Especially in rising the shadows to get some more detail on the frontside of the rocks. In my camera bag
Normally i have my most loved lens, the Pentax 50-135mm 2.8 in my bag, together with a Pentax 10-17 Fisheye Zoom, a Sigma 1.4 50mm portrait lens and my standard zoom, the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 HSM.Feedback
