Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the Gulf of Riga, near the place where the river Daugava flows into the sea.

Time

This was taken on a beautiful sunset on July 11, 2012, at 9:24 PM.

Lighting

Sunset made a wonderful reflection on the water. It just needed a bit of flash from the front to brighten the model's face.

Equipment

Used my Canon 7D with a 50mm f/1.8 lens with an on-camera flash.

Inspiration

We were on the beach to take some photos in sands, and then this wonderful light from sunset appeared with all reflections. Therefore, I asked the model whether we could do some shoots also in the water.

Editing

At that time didn't do much post-processing. Just some basic color correction and cropping were performed. As on-camera flash was used, I needed to remove red eyes.

In my camera bag

When I have my camera bag with me, there is my Canon 7D body, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens, and for a backup EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. Also, Speedlite 580EX II, some wires, CF cards, and other small things.

Feedback

My best results are achieved when I work with the model, not the first time, and we both know what to expect from each other. The golden hour doesn't last forever, so you need to know what you want to achieve for the best results. And don't fear to ask the model about realizing ideas you think could be crazy. It could be that you are on the same wave.
