Kubu Island sits among the Sowa, Nwetwe and Nxai salt pans. It once rose out of the Makgadikgadi Lake, which, several thousand years ago, covered an area roughly the size of Swizterland. Now, instead of water, there is a disorientating expanse of flat, white earth. It is not a hospitable place. It is extremely hot, extremely dry and extremely remote. A scattering of giant boulders filigreed with ancient baobab trees on a changing backdrop of, clear blue sky, perfect sunsets and pristine star light. I am unlikely to see a place like this again. A real gem.
