Behind The Lens

Location

In a basement apartment in Killsly, Saskatchewan.

Time

It was evening.

Lighting

The lights were off except for the twinkle lights on the tree. I added a small amount of flash for fill. The light on her face is from my iPhone tucked in the book.

Equipment

The shit was hand held and taken on a Nikon D600 with. 50mm lens. I used a Nissan glasg for a little extra fill light.

Inspiration

I love Christmas and wanted to try a specialty shot with a child and a Christmas tree.

Editing

I did a little tone coloring to pull more of the burgandy color and added a little vignette. I added some Santa magic dust with a brush.

In my camera bag

A Nikon D800e with. Sigma 24-70mm f2.8, a Nikkir 85mm f1.8, and a 50 or 60mm as well depending on the job.

Feedback

Kill the ambient light and expose for the twinkle lights and add flash as you need. Using a cell phone for the glow on the face works very well and reduces the amount of fill flash needed.
