This photo was taken at Long Lake in North Manchester, Indiana, during the 4th of July. This was the first picture I took that really got me excited about photography!Time
I took this picture just before midnight. I was sitting on a pontoon, out in the water, that happened to have this American flag on it. After staring at it blowing in the wind, with the fireworks going off in the background, I realized, "Wow, this is a really magical moment." It made me proud to be an American, to say the least. It took several hundred shots before I finally decided that this was the one that was closest to capturing the perfect moment.Lighting
It was really dark outside, but every time a firework would go off, it would brighten up the atmosphere for a split second, so I wanted to capture the fireworks illuminating the American flag.Equipment
I just used my old Samsung Galaxy S3 phone!Inspiration
Every year for the 4th of July, I get to spend the whole week at my grandmother's house at Long Lake. This is my favorite part of the year, because I love spending time with her, enjoying the amazing summer weather, and getting to see great friends. The firework shows every year are always fantastic, and basically serve as my symbol of happiness. Every time I see fireworks, no matter where, they always take me back to great memories at the lake, and it gives me great pride to be in America, where I get to cherish these special moments. So, I wanted to take a picture that symbolized all the love that I have for the 4th of July, but also could still be appreciated by others.Editing
After I took the picture, which was through the camera on the Snapchat app, I used one of the filters on Snapchat, that's all!In my camera bag
I don't own a super, fancy, camera. I currently just have my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone. My Galaxy S3, that I took this picture with, no longer works.Feedback
Always be looking for symbolism in your life. If you really, truly, care about what you are trying to capture, you will be willing to take the time to appreciate your subject to the fullest. If you keep that in mind, your viewers will get to see things through your eyes, and will hopefully appreciate them just as much as you do!
