Location
This great scenery is in the Swiss Alps. The photo is taken from the summit of the Säntis, in the Prealps in Autumn. South from there, some of the highest mountains could be seen extending towards the horizon.Time
I arrived at the summit at midday and I could not resist taking some shots. This one turned out great.Lighting
When I decided to take some shots, I was not sure about the outcome because at noon the sun is very strong. However, the fog in the valleys and the snow in the summits helped making a nice atmosphere for a mountain landscape.Equipment
The equipment was fairly simple. The shot was taken with a Nikon D300s and Sigma's 17-70 mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM. No tripod or other equipment was needed, given the fairly strong sunlight of the moment.Inspiration
The long succession of summits reaching the horizon was an unique view that deserved being captured.Editing
The post-processing was not very sophisticated for a landscape photography. I worked mainly with the raw file. I converted it to a grey scale and I used the white balance and lightness controls to increase the sharpness and contrast between the rocky parts, the fog and the snow.In my camera bag
I try to travel with a Nikon D300s body and a 17-70 mm F2.8-4 lens from Sigma, what is enough for my style of photography. I like the body because it is very robust and versatile. The zoom is a good option for a wide range of landscape and nature photography.Feedback
This picture was taken in a remote place. Going there require some planning ahead. Even more if one wants to catch a sunset. This place (and other in the Alps alike) have a trick. There are cable cars carrying you up to the summit.
