Location
This photo was taken just off of Highway 45, about 20km South of New Plymouth on NZ's North Island West Coast. A small country road was the setting with the lone Cabbage Tree beside the lane. The scene has the majestic Mt Taranaki (ex Mt Egmont) as its backdrop.Time
The photograph was taken about 11.30 am on an overcast weekday morning.Lighting
This particular area of the North Island is very special for the light variations it offers. Being within metres of the Tasman Sea in primary pasture land there is little or no pollution. The lighting effects can be seen via the various green grasses, tree and bush hues.Equipment
An Olympus E300 on a Velbon CX640 tripod.Inspiration
This particular area of New Zealand is one of the most picturesque parts of the country. I love capturing these wild landscapes, seascapes and native vegetation that this area offers the landscape photographer, knowing that each image I capture is unique, determined by the time the photograph was taken and the light effect at that time on the subject matter.Editing
The original photograph was ruined by an old, concrete power pole that was positioned right at the end of the lane. This unnatural object took the viewers eye away from the subject of the photograph, the Cabbage Tree. It was carefully removed using Photoshop CS5. No other post processing was used.In my camera bag
My Lowpro EX160 Bag always has the following equipment. A 40-150mm lens and a 14-45mm lens. Two lens hoods. A Bower macro lens. A Visico CPL Filter. Various lens and camera cleaning equipment. All the above together with the Olympus E300 fits snuggly and safely in the Lowpro.Feedback
Love the outdoors and love exploring, particularly places you have never visited. Look for nature's interesting combinations and the effects that the light is having on the shadows and open spaces of the composition. In this photograph there are four key complimentary elements. The mountain backdrop, the native Cabbage Tree, the back country lane with its dilapidated wooden fencing and the low cloud cover
