Behind The Lens
Location
It was a summer night in Paris. I was mesmerized by the city and remember the only thing I wanted to do was walk around with my camera. I came across the fun fair in Le Jardin Des Tuileries and got some really exciting shots. This one was taken from the top of the ferris wheel.Time
It was around 7 pm but since it was summer, there was still just enough light to get this shot. I was on a low shutter speed on a moving ferris wheel so I was honestly shocked to see how clear the photo was!Lighting
The sun was really close to going down. It gave the clouds a really interesting effect. It almost looked as if they were chasing la tour Eiffel.Equipment
This was shot using a film camera. It was the Nikon F4 and I used Kodak tri-x film. The lens that I used was Nikon 28-200 mm f/3.5-5.6.Inspiration
Nothing has inspired me more than Paris did. Every direction I turned was more beautiful than the last. I took this photo during my second night there. I was walking around the carnival when I saw a ferris wheel and decided to give it a go. When I got to the top, the view took my breath away. I could see nearly all of the city and knew that I had to capture the moment. I especially loved the dramatic sky.Editing
Normally I adjust the tone curves in Photoshop, but in this case, the image came straight from the film lab. So I did not do any post-processing.In my camera bag
I actually don't usually work with the film camera that I used to take this photo. I usually use the Nikon D800E. And I always have extra lenses. I'll keep a Nikon 28-200 mm f/3.5-5.6, and a Nikon 50 mm f/1.4 for low light situations. I also keep a pocket rocket to blow dust.Feedback
I actually wouldn't recommend taking photos the way I took this one. It was dark and I needed a low shutter speed, yet I was on a moving ferris wheel. I honestly got lucky in that it turned out as clear as it is. But my advice would be to take photos no matter how bad the circumstances are because you never know how things can turn out. If you are feeling inspired, go for it because it can never hurt.
