Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at Letchworth State Park at the Lower Falls. I feel very peaceful whenever I visit Letchworth, and the Lower Falls is one of my favorite spots in the park.

Time

I took this photo around 4 pm, and I love how the afternoon sun shines on the trees and on the mist coming from the falls.

Lighting

I wanted the light from the afternoon sun, so it would highlight the autumn leaves as well as the mist rising from the falls.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3000 with a Nikkor 55-200'm lens

Inspiration

I always feel so relaxed at the Lower Falls, and I wanted a large photograph to hang in my bedroom so I could always have this "happy place" to visit whenever I want.

Editing

This photograph was a composite of two photos shot in landscape mode. I wanted to be able to print the photo in a square shape, without cropping it. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements for my editing.

In my camera bag

Usually, my bag contains my camera, my 18-55 mms lens, and my 55-200 mms lens. I am an amateur photographer on a limited budget, so I have to be happy with the equipment I can afford.

Feedback

Try visiting the same spot at different times of the day, and different times of the year. The light looks so different depending on what time of day it is; in the morning, the light and shadows can give a completely different look in comparison to afternoon sun. I dream of visiting the Lower Falls in the heart of winter for a completely different view of the falls. Sadly, this portion of the park is closed in the winter (I am planning on seeking permission from the rangers to hike through the closed portion of the park this winter, so we shall see). .
