Location
On the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Virginia/North Carolina border.Time
Late Afternoon near sunset. late September 2013.Lighting
Lots of spotty clouds making the lighting kind of speckled. Had to wait a long time for the clouds to shift and even out the light a bit. In spite if that there was still holes in the clouds making lighting kind of tricky.Equipment
Nikon D800E and Nikkor VR 28-300mm lens at f11 and ISO 200. Feisol Tripod and polarizing Filter.Inspiration
As I was driving down the Parkway was struck at first by a field of Sinflowers nearby and then as I was walking through the field to get in position, the scene reminded me of the Paloose Area of Washington State. It was absolutely magical and before long Inwas joined by at least 10 other photographers.Editing
Post processed primarily in Lightroom for the usual tonal corrections and saturation controls to bring out the light. In my camera bag
Nikon D800E and D4 Nikkor lenses: 14-24, 28-300, 200-400, 105mm Macro and 70-200mm Nikon Speedlights 900 and 700. Feisol heavy duty tripod Neutral Density Filters and PolarizersFeedback
Take lots of shots being careful to optimize the histogram. There is so much of interest you will need to find something to hold the eye and to attract the viewer without overwhelming him with all that there is in the scene. I tried to use the mowing lines to lead the viewer through the scene. Before the sun disappears, put the camera down and enjoy the scene!!
