European Wasp on a grevillea in our home garden. We have been wasp free for a few years probably due to weather not being to their liking. In the last few months however they have returned. These wasps are an introduced species to Australia. I've been bitten 8 times and it is very painful. They don’t need much for them to attack. Unfortunately after repeated bites some experience severe reactions to any subsequent stings. The most severe allergic reaction of all is anaphylaxis which may be life threatening.. They build large nests most often underground. Going near the nests or running a mower over one can prompt a mass attack. These attacks have resulted in deaths. As you can imagine I am a bit twitchy around these wasps. Upwey Victoria Australia.
