A tulip mutation, looking at first glance like the flower parts of an orchid with the lip below the ornate petals and sepals. In this case, it seems that the lowest petal remained attached to the stem during its growth and formation and confused the forming flower as to which way to go in its further production, to become a leaf or a petal. As an orchid grower, I found it quite fascinating.
Mutations can be considered rare, but because of the sheer number of plants-animals-people viewed, can often be found, I even bought an unusual mutated orchid once with an additional un-opened flower to see if that would be normal or if, in that case, it was a full plant mutation.
