Location
This photograph was taken in an abandon Church in Dayton Ohio back in September 2019. The Church had what looked like a grade school within it. While in exploring one of the rooms, parts of the carpeted floor were covered with crayons and colored pencils. Looking at it for a moment I thought that would be an interesting collage, so I pointed my camera down and snapped some photos.Time
While exploring two different abandoned locations that day, this was the first spot. We were there between 9:30 until maybe 11 AM. I'm sure it was more towards 10:30 AM since this room was one of the last spots before we leftLighting
There were some windows in the room, so I just used some natural light from that.Equipment
I had a tripod with me, but went handheld for this shot. It was taken with my Canon 80DInspiration
This was my first time exploring an abandoned building with a fellow photographer, so I was taking as many photographs as I could. I just looked down and thought the massive amount of crayons and dirt looked like it would make an interesting photo in the end.Editing
I worked with this photograph in both Lightroom and Photoshop. Starting in Ligthroom I used a preset from Photographer/YouTuber Chirs Hau and edited that preset down to my liking. Since this photo was taken handheld, I also played around with the Transform area to try and make it look like a nice flat lay photo. When finished I brought it into Photoshop real quick to take a few things out.In my camera bag
What I tend to carry with me in my camera bag: Canon 80D with a Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 as well as a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 stm Lens. I have a second camera too, being a Canon M50 with a 15-45mm lens. For long exposure I keep a Vello ShutterBoss Timer Remote in my bag as well as a Moment Anamorphic lens for my iPhone. Depending on where I travel I will bring my GorillaPod 3K Tripod or a regular Tripod.Feedback
First if you're exploring abandoned places, be careful - you never know what good or bad things you will find inside. If you can, get permission. If you're going in blind like I did with these places, again be careful. While you're inside take as many photographs as you can whether it interest you or not - depending on your situation you may have hours in there or you may have minutes to take pictures.
