Behind The Lens

Location

I have organised a small studio at my apartment, the room on southern side was chosen. This give me pleasure to work with natural sunlight. Not everything I can do with sunlight, cause I almost can not control it. But I love a plenty of light in the room, and my object having a "bath" in it. In a way it inspire me to think, how to create composition/lighting duet.

Time

My way to work in studio is round the clock. Before I make a shot, I try different angles of view, composition and light decisions. So that's difficult to say about time of day. But for sure, that was summer day.

Lighting

I used artificial lighting, luminescent lamp. I put it so, that light went from the side, "meeting" the flower. Also I put it a bit lower, according flower position, to make certain light/shadow effects. I did not use a reflector for the sake of more contrast.

Equipment

Tripod, stand for light + lamp. Olympus E-M10 mark III.

Inspiration

I observe flowers, find their interesting features, enjoying the lines, shapes, colors. This camomile grew in a windy field and formed very interesting line of stem. So far I felt - beside the beauty, it shows a character. A strong will, resistance and optimism. Above all this, I immensely love flowers. It's my endless source of inspiration. The name of work "Flowers space" mean, that they are powerful.

Editing

Only some lightroom "make up".

In my camera bag

For every day and all sort of activities I have Olympus E-M10 mark III. For landscapes I take with me film camera Bronica ETR-si with wide angle zoom, also 150 mm lens (and extension tube), also tripod. Sometimes I take tele-zoom. At studio I use both of them.

Feedback

1 Attention.Tiny detail can make the image much brighter. This detail can be a part of appearance, light solution or compositional. In this case I have done several shots with different angle, and was satisfied. At the end I found angle, when stem have narrow 8-looking shape. And that was the best. 2 Pleasure. Just enjoy, what you are doing.
