The number of chickens in Kauai is insane. This mother would sit down and all her chicks would hide underneath, completely silent, but oh man, when she got up, they were LOUD. Luckily for them, they do not have any predators to fear.

Location
My kids were tired of spending all their time in the water of Kauai and wanted to visit a playground, the nearest one was Lydgate Beach Park (slightly north of the airport).Time
It was the end of the day, as we got to watch a beautiful sunset (from the wrong side of the island, boo).Lighting
Light was fading fast and this was entirely in the shade (even though it does not look like it). I fortunately got away with a 1/640 shutter speed (though a lot of my burst shots failed because it wasn't fast enough)Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 7D Mark II and the Canon 100-400L II lens, of course all the way at 400mm.Inspiration
It all started with a visit to the bathroom (yeah, this is an odd start). From within the bathroom, there was a tremendous amount of noise immediately outside. One must discover the source of all this racket. Naturally, when going outside the sound completely disappears but there is a chicken just sitting there. I give her space, but hang out. A minute later she starts to stand up and the ruckus erupts again. Underneath her were all these baby chicks. Thankfully I had my telephoto lens on (I usually prefer a wide angle) and fired away before mother and children disappeared (visually that is, I could still clearly hear them).Editing
Brightened up the overall image so it wasn't as dark, and other basic overall adjustments. In my camera bag
This was on vacation so I travel light. Canon 5DSR, Canon 7D Mark II (ALWAYS have a backup), Canon 11-24L and Canon 100-400L II. Also the usual assortment of polarizers for each lens (yes, you can get one for the 11-24L but it looks absurd) and extra batteries. I carry it in my favorite travel bag, the Thinktank Retrospective 40. It fits under the seat so I never have to check the bag and it has room for other distractions.Feedback
Your next opportunity can arise from anywhere, including a trip to the restroom.
