Behind The Lens

Location

Walking away from the modern life environment with noisy traffic, crowded supermarkets, and stepping-in into Medieval time, in the historic district of Tallinn,Estonia.

Time

The aroma of the roasting nuts fills the air on the quite square. I know I had breakfast only an hour ago, but it’s Impossible to resist the temptation of trying this local specialty. The church clock strikes ten o’clock. We still have few hours to explore around.

Lighting

It’s a cloudy September morning, and the subject stands in the shadow alongside of a wall. Also, the clothing canopy - non visible to the viewers - that stretches uneven on top the cart contributes to give the vendor’ upper body, face, neck, and shoulders in particular, a dim light.

Equipment

Nothing sophisticated. Just IPad.

Inspiration

I want to bring the viewer back in time by eliminating all elements of modern life present on the square, and concentrating instead on the simplicity, beauty and grace of the past.

Editing

I’m quite sure I did some tonal contrasts , structure, sharpening adjustments.

In my camera bag

Nowadays I have tendency of bringing along iPhone and iPad.

Feedback

The port city of Tallinn is a popular destination for cruise ships. Thousands and thousands of tourists invade the historic center throughout the day. In order to avoid the crowds and appreciate the town, resist the temptation of the tourist stores and try to be there as early as possible. Also adventure yourself into secondary streets, pathways away from everyone else.
