Location
This is my back yard. If you turned around, you'd be looking at the back of my garage.Time
This shot was taken late one spring afternoon. The light in the distance has been enhanced, but there was a light mist that diffused the long light.Lighting
There was a light mist that diffused the setting sun, but the brightness was enhanced in Photoshop.Equipment
The shot was handheld, using a Canon 77D with an 18-135mm 3.5 lens. I don't believe I used any filters. Light was ambient.Inspiration
I live in the forest at the foot of a volcano, so there are plenty of sticks and stones. This challenge seemed custom-made for me. As I cleared the property in preparation for building my house, I scattered large rocks in random spots. Over the years, the forest has made them its own.Editing
I believe I worked on this shot quite a bit. The crop was minimal, but I used a number of adjustment layers. Brightness/ darkness, color, contrast, and sharpness have all been enhanced. In my camera bag
Canon 77D or T5i; 18-135, 18-55, 50, and 24mm lenses; iPhone SE; polarizing and ND filters; tripod; flashlights; extra batteries.Feedback
Shoot what you love. Don't go ranging far afield, when your next great shot is right out your back door.
