Behind The Lens

Location

Living in Norfolk, UK in lucky enough to have one of the longest shorelines in England on my doorstep. This photograph was taken in a little coastal village called Happisburgh (pronounced Hays-bruh). There' used to be wooden structures which were used to farm mussels but these have now fallen into disrepair, the remnants of which can be seen in the picture

Time

It was midday, we all have those days where we have been stuck indoors for far too long and just need to get out with the camera and this was one of those days.

Lighting

Being midday, obviously I couldn't hope for much but it was a stormy day so I tried to use this to my advantage and add some drama to the image

Equipment

I sit with a Sony a77 and my go-to lens is a sigma 17-35 f2.8 which is obviously on a crop sensor. I also use a Pluto trigger for remote shooting and an nd10 filter on this image

Inspiration

As I said earlier, is been stuck indoors and needed to get out, I just wanted to make my time count for something and the stormy skies and rugged landscape gave me the perfect opportunity

Editing

I don't the usual lightroom tweaks and then moved into Photoshop to add some more drama to the image using Nik efex and blending my base image with the enhanced image.

In my camera bag

Sony a77, sigma 17-35mm, 28mm prime, 50mm prime, Pluto trigger, Nd filters, polariser filter for the sigma, tripod.

Feedback

Simply to get out and enjoy yourself. The rules say to shoot at sunset and sunrise but there are airways opportunities to be had no matter what time of day it is and just use the situation to your advantage
