would you be really offended if I said that I don't like the pink light rays as they don't look natural at all? I hope, you're not

Cursty - not at all, thats just how nature presented it. I was sat there with another tog and we couldn't believe what we were seeing! Apart from a bit of contrast and saturation adjustment this is what it looked like.

Location
This image was taken on the southern tip of Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It's a great beach which is busy all year round. I live a couple of miles away so on looking out of the window and seeing the sky developing some rich colours i jumped in the car and got there at just the right time.Time
Taken at around 1745 on 9th Oct, the days were starting to draw in. This is usually great news as i don't have to get up so early or go out late - the misery of the landscape photographer (until you get "that shot").Lighting
With the summer at an end and the transition into autumn, the sky was beautiful, I couldn't wish for better conditions. Usually Freshwater is a haven for surfers as the waves roll in from the Atlantic, so the conditions were unusual. I love the different types of clouds - cold air in the upper atmosphere provided a display of Cirrus while there was still some Cumulus rolling out to sea, combined with the colour of the sky and the almost still sea I could have sat and watched it for hours.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mk III with a 24-105mm F4 L on a Manfrotto tripod and head. I also used a Lee 0.6 ND Grad (Soft) to balance out the image. The first few attempts gave me some trouble with overexposure in the sky but I added some negative exposure to correct it.Inspiration
Living by the sea, I am always on the lookout for something different. I know the local area quite well and in some places have some favorite compositions so the real variables are the sea state and the sky. It's that which gives us the drama or serenity we are looking for when on the hunt for images.Editing
Only a little - shooting RAW, post-processing is a must. In this image, I boosted the saturation and the shadows to bring out some of the foreground grass. I also used Nik Color Efex and chose the Pro contrast filter to add some pop!In my camera bag
Apart from the camera and tripod, i never leave home without my 70 -200 F2.8, and a wide angle - I currently use a Tokina 11 - 16mm which is great for the low light conditions i love. Add to that my Lee grads and I'm a very happy tog!Feedback
Although calm in the picture above, the conditions on the coast can change very quickly. The Lifeboat institute around the headland is one of the busiest in the country! Be prepared, check tides and weather and dress appropriately. Don't take risks - I always ask myself, is it worth it? There will always be another chance to get the image you want and there will always be another camera/piece of equipment - there is only one 'you'! From a compositional point of view, anchor the scene with a strong foreground and look around. Spend time enjoying the location and try different vantage points, get low down and dirty, you will be surprised.
