Looking down a concrete stairwell in Oxford, UK. I see all sorts of places when I'm out photographing properties, and occasionally there are those communal areas like this that work really well as a photo! I particularly like the textures of the walls in this one.

I was in between shooting properties, and this stairwell was on my way. It was in a block of flats in Oxford, UK and caught my eye with its textures and subtle lightTime
It was sometime early afternoon, but as it was an interval stairwell there wasn’t much light coming into the building.Lighting
The lighting was all a mix of mostly natural and a little bit of light from the internal lightingEquipment
I used a Nikon D800 with a 16-35mm f4 lens, handheld.Inspiration
The shape of a spiral, especially for images of stairs, is always pleasing to the eye, and I did like the rough textures and overall slightly grimy feel to the place.Editing
I converted to black and white, made some levels and curves adjustments, and dodged the highlights slightly. A little touch of sharpening to bring out some more texture too. All done in photoshop. In my camera bag
I normally have my Nikon D800, a 50mm f1.4, a 16-35mm f4, a 105mm macro and an old 80-200mm f2.8 from around 35 years ago, still works great in good light!Feedback
Be careful on stairs, don’t take unnecessary risks! Add some light with a speed light if there isn’t enough from other sources.
