This shot was taken at birds of prey demonstration I was at with my daughter.Time
It was taken mid afternoon but it was a cloudy day so the lighting was pretty defusedLighting
I used the natural lighting and as it was a grey cloudy day it didn't give me as much definition as I would of liked but over all it worked well not giving anything in the way of shadow across the face which would of ruined it.Equipment
I use a Sony a77 I shoot mainly handheld with the available natural light, this was shot with my old tamron 28-300 which has since passed away but always served me well on days out without taking to much kit.Inspiration
I have always been fascinated with birds of prey since my cousin rehabilitated and re-released them when I was a kid, I love the way they fly and contrast of the power and the silent gentleness as they fly.Editing
I did a little work to balance the lighting and gain some colour. In hind sight I should go back and move the owl further to the right in the image to give it better proportions but I'm happy with it for now.In my camera bag
Sony a77, Sony a6000, tamron 150-600, tamron 90mm prime 2.8, Sony 16-50 2.8, Sony 58 flash, a set of filters to try some slow motion shots etcFeedback
Be ready, have the camera set fix the focus, move yourself to be in line with the flight and as the bird crosses your focus point shoot a few quick shots, I find this gives me the best chance to get a crisp image.
