Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Nelson Ghost Town about an hour away from Las Vegas. It was my first time going to a ghost town and it did not disappoint. So much to photograph.

Time

I took this at the magic hour when the sun was setting. Created a ghostly vibe to it. I'd estimate the time was around 5ish or so, taken in February of 2015. It was a challenging shot, because I hand held it and had to drag the shutter a bit to get more light to come through. I used a Nikon D810 to shoot this photo with the 24-70mm lens. I usually take a zoom lens when I around walking and pop a prime lens in my pocket :) This photo particularly represented the to me what a ghost town is like. No one in sight, objects just sitting in the ruin waiting for someone to rediscover it. Time does not move forward in these locations.

Lighting

Lighting was just natural sunlight...or sunset rather. It was a desert sky and not a cloud to be seen. ?had to up my aperture in this shot in order to get more details into the photo. I also dragged the shutter a bit so it would show lit up.

Equipment

Nikon???????????????????????????????

Inspiration

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? really wanted to capture something that made me think of loneliness and abandonment of the past.

Editing

In my camera bag

?????????????????????????????????????? I took this shot. Now I pack one camera, 4 batteries, a hotshoe flash, and three prime lenses along with the 24-70. I used to only pack zoom lenses in the past but my photography style has changed and make me rethink what I put in my bag. I also carry extra AA batteries and cleaning kit all packed in a street smart bag that doesn't get dirty, even if it gets dirty =P

Feedback

These shots are typically taken at the magic hour before sunset, just focus and think in your mind what you want to capture. Also don't go nuts and shoot a ton of photos hoping to get one, just practice on dragging shutter and decreasing aperture and take a few until you get what you want to achieve.
