A slightly confusing image, in that the only element travelling at speed is the one that's sharp... This was taken during practice for the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, in the suburbs of São Paulo. I was panning at 1-60 and concentrating on Nico Hülkenberg's Force India, closest to the camera. By chance he happened to pass Felipe Massa's dawdling Ferrari as I pressed the shutter, which added to the sense of movement (to my eye, at least). Taken with Pentax K-5 and Sigma 100-300mm f4.

Brilliant shot !
It is a bit confusing. I thought the car in the foreground was braking hard while the other was passing.
Either way, the sense of speed is undeniable.
Congrats on this, auto racing shots this sharp are tough to capture, or so I have found. I'v tried several times with little success.

Thanks very much for the kind comments. There was a lot of luck involved - firstly that I managed to get the main subject sharp at 1/60 (I usually start at 1/160 or 1/125 when panning, then play around between 1/60 and 1/250 to see what works best) and secondly that the Ferrari was trundling along nearby. I photograph many motor sport events but don't have anything else quite like this in my archive.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought, too, the foreground car was slowing. I appreciate you taking the time to explain each picture, your camera settings and locations. Makes the pictures even better
