Thank you! It was pretty amazing. It was just an unexpected line of rain clouds, no thunderstorms, very slow moving.. Really interesting to watch.

Gorgeous shot! I always get terrified of shelf clouds. Makes me think a horrible storm is approaching every time.

Location
This photo was taken in East Central Illinois. It was just a thin band of clouds and rain but produced this beautiful shelf cloud. It moved very slowly and I was able to get ahead of it several times. Very photogenic.Time
It was close to sunset when the rain/clouds moved thru. I was hoping for some beautiful orange/red light behind it. Later I did get a little color but not what I had hoped for.Lighting
It was close to sunset. Storm clouds can be beautiful at that time of day when the sun peaks under the clouds.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon 6D with a Canon 24mm-105mm @ 24mm, f4.5, ISO 200, 1/100 sec, hand held.Inspiration
I love storms and beautiful clouds. I keep my camera with me so when they strike I can photograph them.Editing
I believe did some post processing but not a lot. It's difficult to get all of the detail on a moving storms so I know I did a little work to bring that out. I may have cropped this image a little, I'm not sure. I was a film photographer before I started with digital so I try to get the picture right up front and do as little post processing as possible. In my camera bag
I have many bags that I can carry depending on what I want to photograph. My general bag/set up are: Canon 6D and a Canon 60D. My favorite lenses are a Canon EF 24-105mm f4L IS USM and a Canon EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS and cable releases for each body. The other items are too numerous to list.Feedback
You have to watch the weather. Not only the radar but keep an eye to the sky. This storm took me by surprise, I think there was actually a very low chance of rain that day.
