Location
This was taken at Emerald Lake Lodge in British Columbia, CanadaTime
Late evening, just as darkness was falling, the scene really captured my eye with some fresh snowfall and still reflections.Lighting
The light from the lodge here reflecting in the water and fresh snowfall really caught my attention, giving a warm soft glow to the cold landscape. Other cabins behind the trees were also emanating light adding a nice touch to the treeline.Equipment
This was shot with my old camera body at the time, a Nikon D90 with a Tokina 11-20mm lens and Dolica Tripod.Inspiration
On a cold winter's night with fresh snowfall, I imagined this place like a warm oasis in the mountains, a place to sit around a fire with a hot beverage. It really made for a magical scene.Editing
I always shoot in RAW format, so I did some basic post processing in Adobe Lightroom to correct white balance, highlights and shadows to my liking. In my camera bag
Depending on where I'm shooting, I'll usually have 1-2 camera bodies and anywhere from 3-5 lenses. I primarily use wide angle lenses for most of my landscape photography work, 11-20mm, 16-85mm but I also like shooting with a 50mm prime and will sometimes bring a 70-300mm for wildlife or telephoto Landscapes. I also use a set of Lee Filters graduated neutral density and 10 and 6 stop filters for long exposure photography. Extra memory cards, spare batteries, cleaning materials and repair tools complete the remainder.Feedback
Timing is everything, but always be prepared. With this image I was fortunate to have some fresh snowfall, but not full on winter where the water would be frozen to rule out the reflections. I'd recommend researching locations and potential weather conditions before you go. Shoot in the best light if possible. Have lots of patience.
