I took this shot at my grandparents' backyard, during a holiday trip.Time
I remember taking it in the afternoon, during a coffee break we were having.Lighting
The lighting was just perfect. As the day was cloudy, it gave some kind of "moody" style.Equipment
My Canon EOS Rebel XT and a simple Canon EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II. Nothing else was used.Inspiration
I was trying to get a different angle from that place, where green elements (grass, nature), wooden stuff and other things would be involved. Suddenly I realized I hadn't to look further but the things placed right in front of my chair. I simply composed those simple elements I had and took a couple of shots. Then I realized the coffee splotch that was on the cup and thought "Gosh! I screwed it up!", but I didn't regret it, because it gave the 'human touch' to the elements that the picture needed.Editing
Just Selective Color layers and low contrast. I wanted to create a greener atmosphere, so the wooden elements could play along with the nature (the grass at the bottom). I added some magenta hue to the blacks/dark tones as well. This, along with the low contrast adjustments, could give you a nice and 'old-fashioned' touch. Just be careful: apply slight changes only.In my camera bag

I think people have heard/read this thousands of times, but this is nothing but the truth: less is more. Play with the angles, lighting, colors, depth of field, composition, exposure and elements you have in front of you.
