Location
I took this at Utica reservoir, just off Hwy 4 in the sierra Nevada. We were camping with friends, and a bunch of kids. Getting them involved with light painting and spinning wirewool.Time
I'm thinking it was around 10-11pm.Lighting
Having the milkyway in the background and trying to keep it sharp, set the time for the exposure. Being new to this I was really experimenting and trying to keep everything clean.Equipment
I believe I was using my Nikon D7200 with a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 and a Velbon tripod. For containing the wirewool, I use an old crab snare tied to a short piece of paracord.Inspiration
I had been wanting to try my hand at spinning wirewool for some time after seeing many beautifull images on the web. So, when this camping trip came up I was sure to have the right gear with me. This was my first attempt!Editing
Yes! being a newbie..quite abit of adjustment in lightroom. should go back and redo it, I've learned a lot since I took this image. In my camera bag
Nikon D7200, Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro, Nikon 55-300, Nikon 18-55, 10 stop nuetral density, graduated filters, extra batteries, cleaning sttuff, Vanguard series 70 tripod, flashlights.Feedback
First and formost, be safe...think about where you are, and your surroundings. These sparks can fly along way! I kow this was taken in the Sierras, and it looks like we are in the forest, but, we were actually standing on a granite outcrop in the lake. Hang around a bit once your done just too make sur your're going to start a fire. Try and get something else in the image that's intersting. Get creative, It's alot of fun!
