I took this photo at central park, during march 2015. Such a unexpected gift, a snowstorm almost in spring.Time
It was really early in the morning, around 7 am. I just love snow days and I used to wake up early and go to the park before the work. Since it was central park, there are already some tourists and I decide to include them in the image.Lighting
Since it was early and after the storm, the challenge was the cold/snow and not the light. The natural light was great (not need any adjustment or artificial light), but the snow and cold make difficult to adjust the WB and the exposure. Considering this, I choose a configuration to increase the contrast and highlight the snow in the trees (with the light meter lower than 0). I did this because it was really hard to be able to photograph this exact moment (they usually fall before we have the chance) and I just love them.Equipment
I use a Canon t4i with a 18-200mm Lens, without tripod and flash. I also use gloves and hand-warmers to be able to spend more than 2 hours at the park taking pictures at the park.Inspiration
I just love the snow! The peace and silence, before everyone wakeup and the snow start to melt. I came from a tropical country and the cold weather is one of my challenges in the new life was adjust to the cold winter. Discover the beauty in the snow, and how it change all te wither city dynamic makes me look to capture as much of winter memory as possible.Editing
I did a slight post-processing in Lightroom to increase contrast and improve the blacks in the histogram. In my camera bag
During the snow days, since I can not have a lot of equipment with me, I usually carry only my camera (t4i) and the 18-200mm in order to have some flexibility to make images of landscape (as this one) and some people and everyday scenes.Feedback
Think about what you want to show and look for it. Consider to spend time and take a lot of images in the process. Try different exposure looking for the exact contrast you want and use the elements to create the composition. In my case the tourist in the lake complete perfect my scene. If you like to challenge the weather, it is important to stay warm, the hand-warmers are a god accessory to keep in the back-pack.
