Location
This photo was taken a Buenos Aires, Province. A city called Baradero. It is a city sourrounded by rivers and isles. When it rains the river takes it´s water to the terrain, so there are several lagoons and field under water. It was in a zone where people do not go very often so birds are in real freedom.Time
It was very early in the morning. I love waking up early when the family is still asleep. That gives me time to take several photos and walk the terrain. It was sunrise time, so you know, at that time birds start their days, and have more activity looking for food.Lighting
I had the sun on the other side of the river. It was infront of me so, no good to take photos to the birds that were in the riverside fishing. I needed to go as nearer as possible to the river line, to leave the sun at my back and try to capture some birds from behind. The morning was lovely with a stong blue sky that helped me to have a good contrast.Equipment
I´ve used a Pentax K30 with a Sigma 500mm lens. Not tripod. Not flash. Always camo clothes and hat, with camo protector for the lens.Inspiration
I love doing nature photography. And I specially like this bird. Always impressed me his strong red color. It is called churrinche. It is a small bird, and you need to have your eyes trained to watch him. They are not in big groups. Probably you can find them in pairs. The male and the female, but they have different colors. They fly very fast from a tree to the field to catch some insect, and go back to the tree. They are no courious, more than that vey scarry. So it is difficult to go near this bird. You need to have lot of patience to get near, and if the bird see you, he flyes away. That morning I remember I walked behind this same bird during more than an hour. Al along the riverside. When I was getting near him, he flew to another tree. I´ve walked inside the water but I wanted "the photo". As there was not much more nature to photagraph, I knew the churrinche was my objective that morning. Sudenly, after walking and walking, I saw it infront of me. I sat down in the floor, and watch him carefully to analyze his movements. The bird went from the tree to the field trying to catch some insect, and returned to the tree. He did that several times. As he repited the sequence, I got prepared to follow him with my camera. I prepared the ISO, light and velocity of the camera. I also had to study which would be the correct focus at the correct time, because as it flyes so quickly, it is so small and there was an infinitum blue sky, the autofocus would had loose the catch. Once I was ready, I crossed my fingers to wait the next fly. He did it, and I didn´t loose my opportunity. I did several clicks, and I got it. The churrinche with his flights open at it maximum.Editing
I don´t like to touch too much my photographs. I think the magic of photography is to take the best shot so that you dont need to do a post processing. Thats why the cameras allows you to configure it to for a good shot. Usually I only work with contrast at photoshop. And this was not an exceptionIn my camera bag
My equipment varies according to what kind of photograph I want to do. It is different to walk in a big City shooting buildings, that in a National Park looking for nature. My bag has my Pentax K30 camera, with several lenses, macro, wide angle lens, 300mm lens and 500 mm lens. Batteries, and tripodFeedback
If you have ever went to do nature photography you will easy understand that there is nothing more important that patience. Patience is more important that equipment, even that the camera. You could have the best equipment, the best camera, the best lens, but if you do not have patience forget to do nature photography. In nature photography there is nothing you can do if natural conditions are not the best, or if the animal you are looking for do not appear. In nature photography you will need to accept the nature fenomenoms. Probably there will be lot of times that you will be prepared to capture the animal or the scene you are looking, but it doesnt appear. Don´t worry, if you have patience, life will give you the posibility in a new opportunity. You also have to be prepared and if you can´t find what you are looking for, be open to try to do a photo of another situation. Doing nature photography takes me lot of time, but there is nothing that gives me more happines that obtaining the photo I was behind of.
