Location

This photo was taken in the evening as the sun was setting.Lighting
When I exposed the image I was careful not to loose information in the highlights, but still keep the detail in the shadows. I used my in camera spot meter to expose the highlights properly.Equipment
I use a Nikon D7000 with an 18-105 mm lens. I almost always use a tripod.Inspiration
I liked the way the light was falling on the upper cliffs and reflection in the water helped make it compelling. I liked the subtly of the colors and how they worked together to create a unique tone.Editing
I don't use Photoshop that much except for a curves adjustment. I process my photos in camera raw. I sharpen them, add contrast, vibrance, remove chromatic aberration, open up shadows, adjust color temp, etc. Most of the time I will only need to sharpen, add a little vibrance, and remove chromatic aberration. I like to keep my work pure and as close to the way I saw the scene originally. In my camera bag
I usually carry: a tripod, polarizer, microfiber cloth, water, extra battery, extra memory cards, lunch, my 35mm film camera and my D7000.Feedback
My best advise is to use a tripod and small F-stops values to achieve depth. Also look at your histogram and make sure your getting a good exposure.
