Location
Rocky Mountain National Park near one of the entrance stations.Time
It was about 2pm on a very warm summer day.Lighting
It was so close to "blowing out" the highlights on the animals hindquarters, I had thought I missed a great opportunity. However 1 of 8 shots that were taken was a keeper and here it is. Sometimes, shots like these depend on a little luck along with vision.Equipment
I used a Canon 40D with the Canon 70-200 f4 IS. The f4 is a wonderful lens for hiking SO much lighter than it's 2.8 siblings.....Inspiration
Just the body expression this guy/girl had was kind of the same as I felt...tuckered out.Editing
Had to do some minor burning to get some detail in the hindquarter area of the animal, of the 8 shots, this particular one took the least amount of post processing and looked the best. I was attempting to change my angle in between shots. In my camera bag
I don't use a bag...used to have two camera bodies (7D and 40D) usually carried the sigma 150-500mm OS on the 7D and the 70-200mm f4 IS on the 40D. carried both setups with a Cotton Carrier (chest and belt).Feedback
As with any other natural photo there is luck involved, but KEEP TRYING!! Technically, this was a difficult shot just because of the dappled light. Moving around the subject did help some though. I very rarely go out "looking" for certain shots, especially now that I have returned to one camera body in use. I find it more of a challenge to take one lens (usually the 70-200mm f4) and attempt to get all my photos with it. This particular time, it worked out well...other times, it may not.
