Location
This is a small private herd owned by the Ute Nation just a couple of miles from our house.Time
It was about 3:00 in the afternoon on a cold, snowy, overcast day in December of 2010.Lighting
The natural light was just about perfect for this shot. I didn't have to deal with harsh shadows, like we so often have here in Colorado: the state with about 300 sunny days per year.Equipment
I used a Canon T2i with the 18-55 kit lens. I was the only lens I had at the time.Inspiration
Well, they were cold and pretty much just standing there posing for me. So, I got out of the car, set my camera to f13 at 1/250 shutter speed and started pulling the trigger :)Editing
All I had at the time was Corel paintshop pro... so that's what I used. I was just learning how to use it. Now, I much prefer Photoshop CC 2014 and the Topaz Labs plugins, which I didn't have at the time.In my camera bag
I keep a canon 10-22 on my camera and also have a 24-70 f2.8 and a Sigma 50 MM f1.4 in my bag.Feedback
My favorite time to shoot is on cloudy days. Full on sun with no clouds is my least favorite time to shoot. Everything just came together for this shot.
