Location
I took this photo on top of a hill behind my college. It was a dreary day and I knew that the vantage point from my spot on the hill would be perfect for this shot!Time
It was 1pm in the afternoon. The sky was overcast so the sun was not too intense which made for some great lighting.Lighting
The lighting was natural, of course. But I made some tweaks to the overall exposure in photoshop to make the mood more dark.Equipment
I used a Canon Rebel T3i with a 50mm lens set on 100iso, 1.8f, and 1000 shutter speed. Other than that I just had her run on the hill all dramatic like and used photoshop to add the birds and give the photo is mysterious feel.Inspiration
This past semester of college was my first ever!! It was really enjoyable, but at the end it got really stressful and overwhelming. I know it may seem petty, but I tend to overdramatize things and this photo came from the stress and anxiety I was feeling about passing or failing. I ended up passing, but it was stressful nonetheless.Editing
I did! After I took my "base" photo I added the birds in there to make them look as if they are flying from the dress as it is flowing. The sky in the original was not as cloudy as I was hoping so I used another one of my photos of a sky and put that in there. After that I made everything a little darker and added more contrast. When that was finished I did not like all the color that was distracting from my point, so I desaturated all the colors and made red (in her hair) and green (in the grass) stand out more. Red and green are complementary colors on the color wheel so I feel that worked well from a design standpoint. In my camera bag
A tripod, Canon Rebel T3i, flour (for dramatic effect), a shutter release remote, and my 50mm lens!Feedback
DO WHAT YOU WANT!! People always tell me that I should not make compositions like this because they are too dark. What I see in this photo is a part of me. Make your photos an expression of yourself or something you believe in. Also, do not be afraid to try something complicated like this. If an idea is birthed in your mind, there is always a way to bring it into life! You don't have inspiration for no reason, use it!
