Location
This photo was taken downtown in St. Louis.Time
It was taken in the late afternoon. Another photographer (Steve Grappe from Photo G Studios) had organized this whole day of shooting zombies. It was done on the weekend so that the businesses around where we were shooting would be mostly abandoned.Lighting
This one was shot around the corner and in an alley from all the other shots. He climbed up on this overhang and at first he was hidden in the dark. He then peeked around and the sun came out just a bit. It was all natural lighting. No flash, No reflectors. Up until two seconds before he was sitting in darkness on that overhang.Equipment
For this shot I used a 5dMii and a 70-200.Inspiration
When he was sitting on the overhang area and peeked his head around, it just seemed like the perfect shot. It was the lonely little zombie boy, no parents or other children around. The look on his face seemed to convey that perfectly. I fired off two shots with my camera before he moved his back into the darkness and began to blend back in with his surroundings. It was the perfect moment and I am glad I was ready for it.Editing
The post-processing was very minimal. I wanted the image to be more of a matte look just so nothing but the zombie boy stood out. Other than adding that, I sharpened it and that's it.In my camera bag

When you are shooting large groups and it pays to focus on a few at time as they break away from each other. If I had been focused on keeping only group shots then this one would not have happened. Always be ready to capture something. I rarely move my camera too far away from my eye when shooting. Don't hesitate to take the image. The worst thing would be hesitating and missing that opportunity. If I had waited for this boy to turn a certain way or for the light to be brighter or anything else, then this shot would not have happened. Watch your surroundings and be mindful of the moment.
