Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in Santorini, Greece at the Princess Hotel while I was studying abroad in Europe.Time
It was snapped at midday, around noon or 1pm.Lighting
I was struck by how the light reflected off the twin umbrellas, but still illuminated the pale blue islands in the background - they only things separating the sea from the sky.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3100.Inspiration
Everything in Santorini is beautiful and picturesque, but while I was there I tried to find slightly unexpected ways to capture this heavily photographed island.Editing
I usually edit my photos on Aperture, but I aim to keep the integrity of the photo intact when portraying landscapes, and editing the photo instead to match what I felt while taking it. Each photo tells me what it needs to reach its potential. In my camera bag
I mostly just carry my Nikon and sometimes an extra portrait lens.Feedback
Take notice of all the elements in your field of view and how they work with each other, especially how the direction and intensity of the lighting affects the composition. The power is not in the object but in your gaze.
