Behind The Lens
Location
Along Route 7 in Schenevus(skin-ee-vus), NY.Time
1:30 pm Early May.Lighting
The vehicle was pushed off the road in overgrown brush. There was a tree shading it from the south, and I was shooting from the north side of the vehicle toward the shaded side. It's all natural lighting on what I believe was a pretty overcast day.Equipment
Used a Canon 5D Mark II. Canon 24-70 f/2.8 "walk around carry every where" lens. f/2.8 1/200 ISO 100 No tripod - no flash.Inspiration
There is an abandoned train along the road that I spend about an hour shooting, at a time I had no intentions of stopping - we just came along this spot and couldn't pass it up. As I was getting back in the car, my wife said, "what is that over there in the bushes"? So we got back out and discovered this old Chevy Loadmaster Truck. I like to shoot "through" certain objects, so pushed the old door open, and used my hand to push the small branch into view that is showing in the lower right foreground.Editing
I do some post processing in Lightroom Elements - typically sliding the black scale and the exposure a bit to the left or right as needed. I believe I slid the rule a few points on the "vibrance" scale as well.In my camera bag

The only tip I like to pass along to other photographers is to "always look behind you". All too often I am focused on what's in front of me and I miss the perspective of looking at what I just passed by, and it's then that I typically always find my best discoveries.
