Location
This was taken at the historic Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. The cemetary goes back a few hundred years and even has Revolutionary War soldier's graves. There are also wild animals there such as this swan and even wild turkeys.Time
This was taken on a Saturday at 3:45pm. A great time of day for natural light and low traffic at the cemetary. I find it important to photograph there during slow times to be respectful of normal proceedings that my travel through the historical section.Lighting
This is all natural daylight, no additional lighting.Equipment
My camera for this was my Sony a6100 with a Tamron 18-300mm, specifically designed for Sony APC-C cameras. Handheld, no flash or other equipment.Inspiration
As a beginning, amateur photographer, nature is my main focus. There is a lot of nature in Cincinnati and I saw this beautiful swan while photographing the historical section of Spring Grove. Water drops are something I've always wanted to capture and I saw the swan go in a few times for a dip. A perfect opportunity to capture drops and practice fast shutter to freeze moments in time.Editing
No post processing! In my camera bag
My main camera, a Sony A7R II, which I just upgraded to from my a6100. My main lenses are a Sony 50mm macro and Tamron 70-300mm. It's also caged and has handles at the ready to help with steady macro work. My a6100 and it's lenses are my backup.Feedback
Be patient and appreciate the beauty as it happens! Appreciating and respecting the subject is paramount for me for good photographs. Once you spot your subject, have your camera settings in place for what you need, then focus on the subject. Be patient and wait for that perfect opportunity such as this swan coming back up, to capture the action. Then snap away! Remember, magic happens anywhere when you have a camera.
